Nicholas Christopher is one of America’s best kept literary secrets. His novels are mysterious, evocative, similar in tone to the best of Paul Auster. Christopher’s non-fic book about film noir, SOMEWHERE IN THE NIGHT, is one of the best treatments on the subject I’ve read…and his poetry is fine too. I’m very jealous of the man’s ability to write well, regardless of the medium. Read anything by the guy you can get your hands on, you’ll never be disappointed…
What did you think of “The Post Birthday World”? I ended up liking it far more than I thought. It definitely spooked me though- how one choice can really change your life in so many ways..
I was surprised as well… when it first got started, I was kind of iffy. I liked the idea that you usually end up “okay” no matter what, but it was really – spooky is a good word – to see how widely different the paths were. I also thought the author did a wonderful job describing relationships and all their nuances. Definitely a good grab at Borders!
